One point about the through and through, Chinese headquartered, Chinese designed, Chinese built carbon products vs Western designed and Eastern produced products, is resellability. So, the Chinese carbon argument aside, I'd rather have "more modern" technologies in my wheels. Both Hunt and Scribe embrace this, the winspace wheels are designed around 25mm tires (states this on their site), which is already becoming the new 23mm so to speak. I am also looking at more than this supposed quality difference, the new trend is wider rims so you can run wider tires at less psi without an aero penalty and with more stability in crosswinds. If your philosophy is seriously that that makes each of these products equal, then you most certainly should go to Amazon and buy some $300 superteam Wheels. It's a nice system (I have two pairs of DT Swiss hubs - and prefer the ratchet to the pawl system) but I have to wonder if I am paying $400 for the same wheels with different hubs (and better customer service).Įvery single proponent of Chinese carbon always states the same thing "but all the major manufacturers use China to make their products too". The Scribe hubs are different, they are Taiwanese made but are in the DT Swiss 180 EXP style with a ratchet system. Since the Scribes have more spokes and are slightly lighter, it may be a different rim, but in all the weights are pretty close. Are they the same basic rim, made in the same factory – I have no idea but would love to find out. The Scribe spokes are the same, and the rim are the same dimensions, but they don’t seem to havethe same carbon weave. I don’t think the hubs are not the same but I’m sure they are both made by one of the large Taiwanese hub manufactures. The carbon spokes and the rims of the Winspace and Hunt are identical – In face the wheels may even be built in the same factory. Not very many US/UK/EU companies even do that – crazy considering how much money wheels are. Hunt do publish wind tunnel data for their Aerodynamicist wheels (not the model I am looking at) and I do give them kudo’s for that. Scribe/Hunt both have great customer service, but they are are still Chinese/Taiwanese wheels - Hunt and Scribe don't make anything - they may not even design anything. It's certainly true that Winspace is Chinese based and Scribe and Hunt are UK based, but they all source their parts in China/Taiwan and the wheels are produced there too. Hunt sponsors actually Continental teams, has wind tunnel testing, and has wide modern rims. TLDR: winspace, moderate quality Chinese wheels, also not very wide, Scribe, no wind tunnel testing, little brand cache, but incredible weight, value, warranty and modern wide rims. They also have actual wind tunnel tested wheels and white papers supporting them. Hunt is also a direct to customer value brand, but they do have some actual brand cache as they sponsor world tour teams and their wheels have been to victory on several Giro stages. I'd say the biggest claim to fame is there a crash replacement warranty, it appears to rival that of Envies. Scribe uses basic aero foil shapes, but does not mention any actual wind tunnel testing that they have performed. They have their own special hubs which appear to be a version of a DT Swiss exp type hub, most comments state that these are extremely loud hubs. Scribe is an English brand that is relatively new, only existing since 2019. Winspace is a full on Chinese brand, although they have alright reviews, that is the major differential between them and the two other brands.
